El Gaucho Glatt Steakhouse
Check THIS out... there is an authentic Kosher Argentinean Steakhouse in Brooklyn!! Did you know that? I didn't, until the marketing manager emailed me to let me know about them. It's difficult in NYC to keep track of all the restaurants since there are so many of them, but we really need to have the Argentine ones listed on a site about tango stuff, don't you think? I have yet to go to El Gaucho yet but it looks awesome and I can't wait to get out there and check it out.

Babbo
Babbo is the gorgeous, amazing, incredible everything flagship restaurant of the famous chef Mario Batali. I can't recommend this place enough. The only problem is...everyone wants to go here because it's so amazing. If you want a reservation, you have to call two months ahead of the date you want to go (or have some great restaurant connections!) and even then, they tend to sell out within a few hours of opening the reservation lines. Here is your big NYC locals tip: The whole front of the restaurant is non-reservation seating. Also most people who sit at the bar are there to eat and drink, not just drink. Go in alone or with one other person and be patient. You may have to wait up to an hour, or you might get lucky and be seated right away. Either way, being nice about it and expecting to wait a while will help your case a lot. It is worth it, believe me. Besides, they will take care of you while you wait and give you lots of delicious prosecco, or whatever you want, like a wine from their 2,000 bottle collection. Don't let the price range scare you. You could go in alone and only order one homemade, delicious pasta for $24 and maybe a cortina of wine, and get one of the best food experiences of your life for the same amount you would end up paying at a lesser place. Try it!

Blue Hill
Go eat where Barack and Michelle Obama came to eat when they visited to see a Broadway show while he was president. This place is amazing. They have their own farm just upstate from NYC. They get their ingredients from their farm, isn’t that cool? You can even go visit the farm and eat at the restaurant there. Talk about locavores, these folks take it seriously. On top of the great ethics behind their ingredients, the cooking is outstanding. It is difficult to get a reservation here but worth the wait for your appointed time. Plan ahead and make it a special occasion.

HanGawi
This place is Zen, Zen and more Zen. Everything about it is Zen. You have to remove your shoes though so make sure you wear some interesting (or at least intact) socks. The food is delicious and healing. The atmosphere is romantic and did I mention Zen? Lunch is less expensive and a wonderful place to have a mini-vacation from the City. Go there for dinner with a special tango partner and you’ll be totally relaxed for your evening.

One beautiful bowl of their simple, homemade cacio y pepe is perfect for me but you might want to add some appetizers or other dishes. I dream of their cacio y pepe. I long for it on a regular basis. In fact, maybe I’ll head over there right now.

Gramercy Tavern
This place makes you feel like you went out to the country for a little vacation! The food is classic American done perfectly and the atmosphere is beautiful yet also cozy and intimate all at the same time. One NYC foodie secret is that they are open between lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Go around 3-4pm and sit in the front. The daylight spills in through the big front windows, there are almost no people there, it is extremely relaxing and right around the corner from several practicas that happen on the weekends.

Artisanal
NOTE: This restaurant is moving and even though they said they'd reopen in "spring 2017" which has come and gone, I can't bring myself to remove it yet because I love it! Stay tuned on this one....
As New York Magazine says "If cheese is a religion, this is its bustling, Balthazar-gone-midtown house of worship" and they said it perfectly. This place has a cheese cave and you are going to want to try spelunking for the first time, if you haven't already. The wine is amazing too, and isn't that quite a lovely combination - great cheese, great wine and great tango? It's romantic too, though not dark or moody. It's equally good to take a friend, a first date or a hot romance. Or all three at once!

Pure Food and Wine
This place is not only vegetarian and vegan, they only serve raw foods but it is like nothing you've ever tasted before! In the past, that combination of elements would make many people run the other way screaming “no, not the Birkenstocks” but raw food cooking has come a very long way. This place is worth checking out if only to see what amazing and versatile things can be done with just plain raw food. It isn’t plain at all! And you will actually feel good after the meal, as opposed to bloated, uncomfortable, over-full, etc. It just might be the perfect place to eat before a milonga. Ok, maybe not the All-Night Milonga, but any other milonga!
